Bowness Community Association Artist in Residence
Summer of 2023 Jamie did a residency at her local community association. The BCA Artistic Talent Share. For three months she engaged with the community through a community art project and workshops. She handed out close to 200 solar dye kits for community members to dye a piece of yarn or material to then add to a collective weaving if they wanted to. The results of the weaving were beautiful and community members really enjoyed learning, experimenting and connecting with neighbours and friends.
Workshops consisted of bundle dying, needle felting pumpkins, visible mending and knitting. She had all ages attending and fun was had by all. The workshops were consistently full and the mending had over 25 people attend over the three hour drop in which for some they extended their time continuing to stitch until our Showcase started an hour later.
She ended her residency with an art show at the BCA showcasing the community weaving, photographs of MIke’s of her dye plants and rust and a couple textile pieces she created during the summer.
