Jamie Lynn Bowen

I am Jamie Lynn Bowen, a Calgary based fibre and textile artist. I’ve always been creative for as long as I can remember and have always been drawn to fibre and textiles. My grandmother taught me to knit as a child and in high school my favourite class was sewing. When I moved to Vancouver in the early 2000’s  I immersed myself in classes of knitting, spinning and textiles which grew into me teaching knitting at two yarn shops and managing one as well. I spent this time learning about different fibres and how to use them.

After the birth of my daughter in 2011 we relocated to the Okanagan where Mike and I started needle felting and launched our small business which is now known as The General Bean. Through our fibre business we explored local wool and the Canadian Wool Industry and how important local really is. We have travelled from Vancouver to Toronto showing at many large and small trade shows, craft fairs, festivals and wholesale shows. Teaching is a large part of what I do as well and I teach all ages through workshops, schools and residencies.

My art focusses on needle felting wool sculptures and using natural dyed elements. I love to grow and forage for items to dye with. You can check out my art at my website www.dandylynn.com
